Does helping just one person really matter?
Sometimes when we think of how we can help others, we get overwhelmed. So many people are in need. Will the little ways we help really make a dent?
In Deuteronomy 15:7-8 it reads, "If there is among you anyone in need, a member of your community in any of your towns within the land that the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hard-hearted or tight-fisted toward your needy neighbor. You should rather open your hand, willingly lending enough to meet the need, whatever it may be." (NRSV)
Here is an example about how helping just one person can change someone's life and the lives of those around them. A lady came into CCM looking for some help for her family. Her husband recently had been laid off from his job in the coal industry. She said they needed to move from their current house to public housing. They paid the rent deposit and the electric bill but to move in they had to have the water on and they used all the money they had. Middlesboro Housing sent her to us so we could help her and we did. This family has now been able to move on from their unfortunate situation. This is just one of many stories we could share with you about how helping one person with one utility bill has changed the life of an entire family.
